Bubba Jenkins soundly defeats Reinaldo Ekson at PFL 5
The Professional Fighters League returns to us tonight, June 24, 2022, for PFL 5, going down live from the Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
Tonight’s event is to showcase our lightweight & heavyweight divisions and is to be headlined by a heavyweight bout between Bruno Cappelozza (15-5) and Matheus Scheffel (15-8).
Co-headlining the event is a lightweight bout between former WEC & UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis (25-12) and fellow UFC veteran Stevie Ray (23-10).
The first man to defeat two-time PFL champion inside the organization, Bubba Jenkins (17-5) faced Reinaldo Ekson (18-5) in the second bout of the main card tonight. Continue reading to see how this lightweight bout went down:
Official Result: Bubba Jenkins def. Reinaldo Ekson via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
Ekson opens up the bout with a hard leg kick, and follows it up with some more kicks to the body, as well as some head kicks that didn’t land. Jenkins retaliates with his wrestling, as he does, and puts Ekson on his back.
The second half of the round is spent on the feet, where Jenkins’ boxing looked good, and Ekson’s kicks continued to look good.
Ekson’s movement is doing him well in this fight, but it’s hard to imagine he expected Jenkins to keep up with him on the feet. Jenkins is of course the better wrestler of the two as well, as he almost always is, and he secures another takedown toward the end of the round to presumably make it 20-18 going into the third.
Jenkins also secures the third round with his wrestling for another dominant victory, his second of the season.
