Calogero Torretta well prepared for pro debut at Ring of Combat 76, May 20th
Video interview with Calogero Torretta above
Former world champion kickboxer Louis Neglia Jr and Dead Serious Promotions are invading Atlantic City, NJ once again on Friday night May 20th as they host Ring of Combat 76 from the Showroom inside the Tropicana Casino and Hotel Resort. ROC has remained one of the best regional promotions in the country as the list grows continually of their alumnus who have gone on to the UFC.
In the main event, the vacant lightweight championship will on the line as Cedric Gunnison (3-1) meets up with Nick Rodrigues (5-1). The vacant featherweight belt will also find a new home when John Ramirez takes on Sergio DeBari.
There will five fighters making their professional debut on this fight card as well and my ears perked up when I saw that Calogero Torretta was among the five taking that big leap and getting prepared to fight Ricardo Jiminez (0-1). I was cageside on commentary for Torretta’s last amateur contest at Art of War Cage Fighting 20 in October. Torretta looked complete and ready for the next level with a decisive victory as he controlled the action and position for the majority of the fight bringing his amateur record to 5-2.
MyMMANews reached out to the 27-year-old to see how his camp went as fight week arrived and a little about his path in life that brought him to this point in his fighting career. He tells us…
“Camp has been great. I’ve stayed free of any nagging injuries and my coaches and teammates at Nick Catone MMA are savages and I have to thank them for helping me get here. They have pushed me, and I’ve pushed back and we make each other better. We have been training for this opportunity and now it’s here.”
Please watch our interview on the link provided. Torretta talks about his path to MMA through karate and the people who have provided the support that he needs.
MyMMANews will be cageside with live results right here. You can see the fight card being streamed on FITE.TV with Jay Regalbuto and former UFC standout “Raging” Al Iaquinta calling the action.
