This matchup pits the No. 5 ranked featherweight in the UFC in Kattar against the No. 6 ranked featherweight in Kattar, so it’s perfect matchmaking despite the fact Kattar is coming off of a loss and Allen has won nine straight fights. That’s because Kattar’s last defeat was a highly-disputed split decision defeat to Josh Emmett at UFC Austin that many fans and media thought he won. The UFC typically matches up winners and losers, so it’s definitely something to keep in mind that the promotion is bucking that trend with this matchup.
Kattar (23-6) has been in the UFC since 2017 and he has a 7-4 overall record in the Octagon, with notable wins over the likes of Giga Chikadze, Dan Ige, Jeremy Stephens, and Shange Burgos. As stated, Kattar lost a split decision to Emmett in his last fight, but it was a very close fight that many felt he won, and he can get his momentum back by beating Allen.
Allen (18-1) first joined the UFC in 2015 and since then he is a perfect 9-0 inside the Octagon, with wins over the likes of Dan Hooker, Sodiq Yusuff, and Makwan Amirkhani. He has long deserved the opportunity to fight someone highly-ranked at 145lbs, and he gets the opportunity to break into the top-five next month when he faces off against Kattar.
