Carlos Diego Ferreira rallies and stops Mateusz Rebecki in final seconds at UFC St Louis

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to us tonight, May 11, 2024 for UFC St Louis, going down live from the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

Headlining the event is a heavyweight bout between the UFC’s all-time knockout leader, no. 12 ranked Derrick Lewis (27-12) and the surging no. 15 ranked Rodrigo Nascimento (11-1).

Co-headlining the event is a welterweight showcase between Joaquin Buckley (18-6) and Nursulton Ruziboev (34-8-2).

Our first feature fight of the evening came in the lightweight division between former Legacy FC lightweight champion Carlos Diego Ferreira (19-5) and former FEN lightweight champion Mateusz Rebecki (19-2).

Ferreira went on a six-fight win streak at 155 lbs from 2016 to 2020, before going on a three-fight skid. He however snapped his losing streak last May with a vicious KO win over Michael Johnson at UFC Vegas 73.

Rebecki on the other hand had gone 16-0 over his last 16 bouts going in, including a 3-0 run in the UFC following victory on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2022.

Official Result: Carlos Diego Ferreira def. Mateusz Rebecki via TKO (punches) at 4:51 of round three

Rebecki opened up the bout very aggressively, loading up and letting go on heavy punches, many of which landed. He landed a good left hand early on, and soon after another that stunned Ferreira. Rebecki ended up dropping the Brazilian with that same punch later on in the round and landed a few heavy hammerfists before settling in his guard, remaining there for the final minute of round one.

Ferreira countered with some good punches of his own in the first, but round one was all Rebecki.

Rebecki opened up the second where he left off in the first, landing that heavy left hand once more, and securing an easy double leg takedown one minute in. Ferreira kicked him off and got back to his feet, where he really started to bust Rebecki up, swelling his left eye quite badly, and opening a cut up over his right.

Ferreira was in control from here, landing much of what he threw Rebecki’s way. Rebecki caught a head kick and put him on his back, though Ferreira got right back to his feet again and dragged Rebecki down, immediately taking his back and securing mount where he ended the round with an arm-triangle choke fully locked in.

Ferreira continued dominating Rebecki in the third and final round, battering him on the feet and getting up immediately the one time he was taken down, reversing Rebecki and beating on him from top position.

After roughly two minutes Rebecki got back to his feet in the final minute of the fight, Ferreira pressuring him and wobbling him with a two-punch combination. Ferreira then double legged Rebecki and proceeded to reign down punches from top position, eventually securing the stoppage in the final 10 seconds of the bout.

At 39 years of age Carlos Diego Ferreira has still got it, as he just picked up his second-straight stoppage victory tonight at UFC St Louis, becoming the first man to defeat Mateusz Rebecki in 10 years.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
