Carroll’s Corner MMA Podcast: Dami Powerson of Striking 101
On Friday nights episode of Carroll’s Corner MMA Podcast, Dami Powerson of Striking 101 joined us on the air. Powerson won his amateur MMA bout last Friday evening at World’s Collide. He defeated Mark Sagur via unanimous decision in front of a sold out crowd at “The Space at Westbury”.
Powerson, normally a light heavyweight fighter, moved up a weight class after his opponent dropped out of the matchup. The news came to him the day before thanksgiving, and at that moment he accepted a fight at heavyweight. Any fighter that has cut weight knows the joy of being told the day before thanksgiving that he’ll be still fighting, but he doesn’t have to worry about his weight heading into the bout.
We talked about his background, how he was introduced to his head coach, Jonothan Ruiz of Striking 101 and his future goals in the sport of MMA.
Powerson (3-2), a former high school wrestler plans to climb back into the cage for Triton Fights 1, on February 24, 2017. He’s unsure which weight class he’ll be competing at, but he’s open to either.
As a fight fan, a fight I’d love to see would be KTFO heavyweight champion, Brett Sanchez vs. “The Preditor”. These two fighters usually weigh around the same weight (225-240-pounds) at fight time. They both have heavy hands and strong grappling. The Striking 101 fighter might have a slight height advantage on Sanchez. I believe this would be a great co-main event for Triton Fights 1.
