Cathedral City to honor Cub Swanson, Timothy Bradley with mural
Officials in Cathedral City, California will honor two combat sports athletes from the Coachella Valley through art. World boxing champion Timothy Bradley and mixed martial arts and Ultimate Fighting Championship competitor Cub Swanson (whose real name is Kevin Luke Swanson) will be the focus of a mural that will be dedicated on the east side wall of One Eleven Condition Club along East Palm Canyon Drive.
Local artist, Rick Rodriguez, began painting the mural on July 10 and has plans to complete on July 24. Rodriguez was hired by the Cathedral City Public Arts Commission as part of their goal to incorporate art into the City’s commercial zones.
Both Bradley and Swanson grew up in Cathedral City and attended Cathedral City High School at the same time. Bradley won five-world boxing championships in two weight classifications, one of those was against the legendary Manny Pacquiao.
Swanson has been in several high profile UFC and WEC fights and will fight Renato Moicano at UFC 227 at the Staple Center in Los Angeles on August 4.
