Rose Namajunas vs Carla Esparza II to co-main UFC 274

Chael Sonnen explains why Carla Esparza vs. Rose Namajunas 3 has to happen

Former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen explained why a trilogy bout pitting Carla Esparza vs. Rose Namajunas has to happen.

Esparza and Namajunas took part in one of the worst UFC title fights of all time at UFC 274 last week. It was an uneventful match as neither woman did much of anything offensively for the full five rounds. Esparza won a split decision to recapture the UFC women’s strawweight belt, but it was not an exciting fight by any means, and the fans were not happy with the end result.

That being said, while most fans never want to see this fight again — they’ve already fought twice, and Esparza has two wins over Namajunas now — there is at least one person who does want to see the fight. Sonnen, the former UFC fighter-turned-MMA analyst, said on his YouTube channel recently that he wants to see the UFC book the trilogy fight between the two. Although very few fans are asking for it, Sonnen believes the UFC has to run this fight back, and one of the reasons why he believes that is the case is because he thinks Namajunas and Esparza helped contribute to 400,000 PPV buys for UFC 274.

“You tell me it was the least activity you have ever seen in a fight. I will tell you, it was the hardest decision judges have ever come to. We’ll both be right. We gotta redo the match. period. The pay-per-view numbers came in. Somebody swung that needle. There was one title fight in the whole goddamn card. So before you think you’re gonna default to the boys main event, there was one title fight on the card. They get some level of credit. We gotta redo that match,” Sonnen said (via SportsKeeda).

Do you agree with Chael Sonnen that we need to see the trilogy fight between Carla Esparza and Rose Namajunas?
