Chase Hooper, UFC St Louis

Chase Hooper dominates and stops Viacheslav Borshchev at UFC St Louis

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to us tonight, May 11, 2024 for UFC St Louis, going down live from the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

Headlining the event is a heavyweight bout between the UFC’s all-time knockout leader, no. 12 ranked Derrick Lewis (27-12) and the surging no. 15 ranked Rodrigo Nascimento (11-1).

Co-headlining the event is a welterweight showcase between Joaquin Buckley (18-6) and Nursulton Ruziboev (34-8-2).

Our preliminary main event came in the lightweight division between grappling stud Chase Hooper (14-3-1) and former kickboxing champion Viacheslav Borshchev (7-4-1).

Hooper came into the bout on a two-fight win streak, having gone gone 5-3 through his eight octagon bouts going in, while Borshchev had gone 2-2-1 through his five octagon bouts to date.

Official Result: Chase Hooper def. Viacheslav Borshchev via submission (D’Arce choke) at 3:00 of round two

Hooper dropped Borshchev with an overhand left about one minute into the contest, to everyone’s surprise, and absolutely mauled him from there. He held mount for much of the opening round, reigning down nasty punches and elbows from top position. Borshchev nearly got back to his feet toward the latter stages of the first, Hooper of which brilliantly wrapped up an inverted triangle and kept him on the mat until the buzzer sounded.

Hooper quickly got Borshchev back down to the mat early in the second and picked up right where he left off in round one, battering him from top position before wrapping up a D’Arce choke for the submission finish midway through round two.

This was by far the best Hooper has ever looked, as he became the first man to ever stop Viacheslav Borshchev in MMA competition tonight at UFC St Louis.

Borshchev is dangerous man on the feet, having gone 18-2 across 20 kickboxing bouts as well as also 2-0 across two boxing fights, and Hooper absolutely dominated him beginning with an accurate, heavy punch on the feet. And we all know how great he is on the ground, the kid’s been a BJJ black belt for a time now and he’s still only 24 years old.

Chase Hooper called for a fight with former Cage Warriors featherweight champion Paddy Pimblett next, and who wouldn’t love to see that?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
