Ciaran Clarke discusses the rise of Irish MMA and his upcoming fight at Bellator 285
The career of rising Irish featherweight Ciaran Clarke could not be off to a better start. The undefeated fighter has begun his career 5-0, with all five of his professional fights coming with the Bellator MMA promotion. Having fought all of his fights in Europe, Clarke has cemented his name as one to watch and that will continue on when he faces Georges Sasu at Bellator 285 on September 23.
Already having picked up a victory earlier this year at Bellator 275 against Abou Tounkara, Clarke is looking not only to extend his winning streak, but also continuing to ride his momentum of both fighting in Europe, specifically Dublin, Ireland.
Training out of SBG Ireland with head coach John Kavanagh, Clarke has had several generations of Irish fighters, including Conor McGregor, to look at for lessons both in skills and career growth as his journey has gone on.
In an interview with MyMMANews, Ciaran Clarke opens up about how the generation before him has taught lessons both in the cage and outside of it, what it means to be part of a growing stable of Irish MMA fighters, and what he’s looking to show in his matchup against Georges Sasu.
Unlike many fighters, Clarke opted to go about his career with a more patient approach, having compiled 23 amateur fights throughout his career and it’s a move he says he felt helped him prepare in many ways as he turned professional.
In facing all different types of fighting styles, fighters from all over the world, and going through numerous training camps that most wouldn’t have endured, Ciaran Clarke has the team, the experience from his amateur career, and most importantly, the skillset physically and mentally to become one of the very best.
He approaches each fight with a singular mindset: focus on the task and opponent at hand. Belts and big ticket fights are surely to come as long as he keeps winning, but for Ciaran Clarke, it’s one fight at a time, and his experience and team will help lead him to the highest level of success in his professional career.
