Ciryl Gane brutally knocks Tai Tuivasa out in homecoming at UFC Paris

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us today, September 3, 2022, for UFC Paris, marking the promotions first ever event in France, going down live from the Accor Arena.

Headlining the event was a clash of top ranked heavyweight contenders, as former interim champion and no. 1 ranked Ciryl Gane (10-1) faced off with no. 3 ranked Tai Tuivasa (14-3) in the main event of the evening.

Gane was coming off his unanimous decision defeat to UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, a fight he nearly won, while Tuivasa came into the bout having won his last five-straight, all five coming via knockout.

Official Result: Ciryl Gane def. Tai Tuivasa via KO (punches) at 4:23 of round three

The first round between these two could come as surprising to some, as Tuivasa reminds us he has more than heavy hands in his arsenal. He’s able to aid in finding his range with his leg kicks, and he’s able to cut off the cage at times.

That being said, Gane landed a nasty body kick, and an equally nasty head kick, along with some other slick strikes throughout the first five minutes.

Gane began picking Tuivasa apart through the first half of the second but gets caught with a huge right hand that instantly drops him. Tuivasa lands a follow up shot on Gane, who was at that point working his way up.

Tuivasa lands a couple harder punches and continues hurting Gane, but Gane catches Tuivasa with a series of body kicks that on the contrary badly hurt him. The second half of round two was absolutely crazy, there was a point in it where we thought each of them were done.

Gane hurts Tuivasa with a round kick to the head in the third and follows it up with a front kick up the middle to Tuivasa’s chin, which also landed. Tuivasa is incredibly durable, because he’s taking some serious shots.

Gane continues to hurt Tuivasa to the body as well, and the third time he hurt Tuivasa to the body in the middle stretch, he followed it up with a vicious right hand. Gane lands a series of punches after wobbling Tuivasa badly with the right and the referee is forced to stop the action.

Ciryl Gane improves his record to 11-1 by stopping Tai Tuivasa’s five-fight win streak. What a homecoming for him this was.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
