Claudio Puelles secures kneebar finish over Clay Guida at UFC Vegas 52

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, April 23, 2022, for UFC Vegas 52, going down live from the Apex Center in Paradise, Nevada.

Headlining the event is a supposed title eliminator bout contested in the women’s flyweight division between former strawweight champion Jessica Andrade (no. 1) and surging contender Amanda Lemos (no. 10)

Andrade is one of the more brutally powerful women in the entire sport, many even refer to her as the female Wanderlei Silva, while Lemos brings that same exact danger to all of her fights.

Our co-main event of the evening came in the lightweight division between UFC legend Clay Guida and an upcoming prospect in Claudio Puelles.

Guida is coming off a submission win over one of the greatest BJJ talents in the entire sport, Leonardo Santos, and Puelles is a stud grappler in his own right, securing two kneebar victories throughout his first four wins in the promotion.

Official Result: Claudio Puelles def. Clay Guida via submission (kneebar) at 3:01 of round one

Guida is quick to press the action and move Puelles backward, before shooting on a takedown.

He’s able to secure it, but immediately finds himself in trouble with a very talented grappler.

Puelles first throws up a triangle, and comes very close to securing it, before switching to an armbar. He then loses it as Guida defends correctly, but Guida’s arm remains wrapped up for a while.

Guida finally scrambles out of danger, before putting himself right back there as Puelles sets up a beautiful kneebar. It took a whole two seconds, if that, for Puelles to secure that leg lock, and now he extends his record of the most kneebar finishes in UFC history to three.

This is Puelles’ fifth-straight victory inside the octagon, since losing his debut at The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America III finale, where he competed as a finalist.

At just 26 years of age, Claudio Puelles certainly has a bright future ahead of him.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
