CM Punk announces fight with Mickey Gall set for UFC 203
It’s been a long time coming but it seems that former professional WWE wrestler, CM Punk’s first official fight in the UFC has been set for September 10 at UFC 203..
Punk, whose real name is Phil Brooks, appeared as a guest on the new UFC Unfiltered Podcast with Matt Serra and Jim Norton, where he made the announcement approximately 11-minutes into the show.
LISTEN TO THE ANNOUNCEMENT BELOW:
Punk was originally announced to the UFC back in 2014 but is yet to appear in the octagon as he has sustained several injuries on top of properly preparing for the transition to mixed martial arts.
Gall won his UFC debut in February against Mike Jackson just 45-seconds into the fight. Gall (2-0) is a New Jersey based fighter who went undefeated as an amateur before turning pro, winning his pro debut via the same submission in November 2015.
From there, Gall was recognized by UFC President Dana White during the filming of his show ‘Dana White: Lookin’ For a Fight.’
Gall called Punk out, and the process towards booking the fight began to fall in place. White put a stipulation in place. In order for Gall to get the fight with Punk, he would have to get past Jackson. Punk sat cageside to witness the fight unfold and after Gall earned the win, Punk entered the cage and the fight was officially set.
Several days later however we learned that Punk would need to undergo a minor surgery and the fight date would be set back.
UFC 203 in Cleveland, Ohio will be headlined by a UFC heavyweight title match between champion, Stipe Miocic, and challenger, Alistair Overeem.
