Cody Garbrandt and Deiveson Figueiredo booked for UFC 300
UFC 300 is slowly starting to take shape. After the UFC and Dana White announced Weili Zhang and Xiaonan Yan for the first title fight, we have confirmation of news today of another great fight for the tri-centennial card. Deiveson Figueiredo and Cody Garbrandt have been added to the event in a bantamweight bout.
Cody Garbrandt and Deiveson Figueiredo: the tale of two champions
Both Deiveson Figueiredo and Cody Garbrandt are former champions. Hard hitting and never in a boring fight, these two are set for a firecracker matchup.
Going into UFC 300, Figuriredo is riding high off of a fantastic bantamweight debut against Rob Font. He is coming up from flyweight, where he was twice the king, capturing the belt in bouts with Joseph Benavidez and Brandon Moreno. He looks to make his way to the top of the heap at bantamweight but will add a big name to his resume first.
Cody Garbrandt hasn’t had the same success Figueiredo has had. After he captured the belt from Dominick Cruz in 2016, “No Love” went on a miserable 1-5 run with losses to TJ Dillashaw, Rob Font and a failed one fight stint at flyweight against Kai Kara-France.
Garbrandt has turned it around in his last two outings. He has defeated Trevin Jones via decision and had a spectacular first round knockout of Brian Kelleher in his last fight.
Building UFC 300
With Deiveson Figueiredo and Cody Garbrandt facing off, UFC 300 is taking shape. In addition to the aforementioned Zhang-Yan bout, we will also be getting the following:
Jiri Prochazka vs. Aleksandr Rakic
Charles Oliveira vs. Arman Tsarukyan
Aljamain Sterling vs. Calvin Kattar
Bo Nickal vs. Cody Brundage
Happening in April, UFC 300 is still trying to find its marquee matchups. But the UFC always tries their best to show out on these cards. We can only hope that Jim Miller gets a win this weekend and a fight on UFC 300. This has him fighting on the 100, 200, and 300 card.
