Colby Covington claims Tyron Woodley turned him down for Aug. 22 main event
Colby Covington says he was offered and agreed to fight Tyron Woodley on Aug. 22, but the former champion declined.
For years now, Covington and Woodley have had a rivalry. Following “Chaos” won the interim title at UFC 225 it was expected he would fight Woodley. Yet, the fight has never come to fruition and the two have trashed one another in interviews since then, claiming the other is ducking them.
Now, late on Wednesday evening, Covington shared a signed bout agreement with the UFC where he was offered to fight Woodley in the main event of an ESPN card on Aug. 22. However, he claims the former champion turned him down.

“This was supposed to be your main event August 22nd on ESPN until Tyrone did what his daddy should’ve and pulled out… AGAIN!,” Covington wrote.
Currently, the UFC does not have any fight announcements for the Aug. 22 card. But, a main event between Colby Covington and Tyron Woodley would be a massive fight for the company and one many fans have wanted to see for a long time. Whether or not Covington stays on the card and headlines against another top welterweight is unknown at this time. But, he has been clear he wants to fight Woodley, Jorge Masvidal, or rematch Kamaru Usman.
Colby Covington has not fought since he suffered a fifth-round TKO loss to Usman at UFC 245 for the welterweight title. It was his second loss inside the Octagon and snapped his lengthy winning streak where he beat the likes of Robbie Lawler, Rafael dos Anjos, and Demian Maia.
Tyron Woodley, meanwhile, is on a two-fight losing streak where last time out he was dominated by Gilbert Burns to lose by decision in a fight he lost all five rounds in. Before that, he lost his welterweight title at UFC 235 to Usman by decision where again he lost all five rounds.
