Combate Americas’ Copa Combate 2 fight card is finalized
Combate Americas is a rising promotion. And, to attract more fans and keep it fresh, they have finalized the fighters for Copa Combate 2.
The promotion is going back to old school MMA, in a one-night tournament. While it should be one of the more anticipated nights for MMA fans around the world. The tournament is set for December 7 at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California.
This historic card will also mark the first time in history that California State will sanction a one-night, eight-man MMA tournament. However, the fights will not be regular fights. The quarter-final fights will be one five-minute round, while the semi-finals and finals are traditional three five-minute rounds. Ultimately, the promotion has yet to announce the brackets which will give more insight into who the early favorites will be.
After much debate, Combate Americas finally decided on the eight featherweights who will compete in the tournament for a chance to win $100,000. As well, they also have two alternate bouts, meaning if a fighter wins and can’t proceed into the next round of the tournament, an alternate will step in.
Ultimately, this is the second tournament card Combate Americas has done. It is something CEO Campbell McLaren is very familiar with.
“This is the way I started the UFC 25 years ago – an 8-man tournament – the toughest challenge in sports – and now it’s coming to Fresno and the great state of California for the first time in history,” said McLaren.
