Conor “Kenny Powers” Bracken: “If I’m fighting, it’s going to be dope!”
Interview with Conor Bracken above
In some walks of like, your presentation and the way you carry yourself can make you or break you. With combat sports, in particular, a fighter’s presentation can be their strongest asset or the missing link to a prosperous career.
Anyone familiar with the HBO comedy series, ‘Eastbound and Down’ knows Danny McBrides fastball slinging character, Kenny Powers. McBride’s role as “Powers” casts him as an in-your-face, brash, and always confident former baseball star sporting a long, luscious curly mullet.
Conor “Kenny Powers” Bracken has taken that moniker and ran with it. 1-0 as a professional Muay Thai practitioner, Bracken made his professional debut on March 13th at Triumphant 10 when he defeated Stephen Bobinchuck via unanimous decision. It was a one-sided affair for Bracken who utilized his vicious elbows countless times to dictate the pace of the fight. Of course, while rocking a curly mullet.
“The only thing that really hurts is my elbow still,” Bracken says. “But, to be expected when you ram it into someone’s face a million times,” Bracken laughs. “I couldn’t believe he was still standing!”
Bracken who grew up around and “trained martial arts for as long as I can remember,” was a bit of a wildcard growing up. “I was always just getting in fights,” He says. “My mom was like ‘alright let’s put him in something that he’s not going to go and get arrested doing,” Bracken recalls.
“I went and found an MMA gym first and it was doing some Muay Thai and I really like the Muay Thai part of it, Bracken admits. Professing, “It’s beautifully brutal, and that’s what I love about it.” Emphasizing, “Muay Thai is what kind’ve caught my heart.”
Bracken’s “Kenny Powers” schtick, however, came from the distinct characteristics of McBrides’ foul-mouthed, ball-playing alter ego.
“I love eastbound and down, obviously,” Bracken laughs. “I’ve always kind of had that persona,” he explains. “When I’m going to fight, I’m like ‘hey mother fucker, everybody looks at me. This is about to be dope. You wanna see this shit,” Bracken says. “I like being the center of attention when I’m going to do some dope shit and if I’m fighting, it’s going to be dope!”
Following his dominant debut, Bracken is eager to get back to his winning ways saying he’ll return, “As soon as someone will have me!”
