Conor McGregor causes chaos at UFC 223 media day, fighter injured
The news cycle surrounding Saturday night’s UFC 223 event just will not stop and unfortunately today a lot of damage and havoc was caused at the hands of ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor.
It appears as if McGregor and an entourage arrived at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, following today’s UFC 223 media day and caused havoc, injuring a fellow UFC fighter in the process.
McGregor’s team went after and attacked a van filled with fighters as it was departing the arena, banging on the vehicle and throwing chairs through a window.
In videos shot by fighters and media, ‘Mystic Mac’ could be seen shouting for someone to get out of the van. UFC 223 headliner Khabib Nurmagomedov happened to be in that van.
Michael Chiesa who is scheduled to fight Anthony Pettis on Saturday but all that is now up in the air as Chiesa received lacerations to the face as a result of broken glass. He is currently receiving medical treatment a nearby hospital.
McGregor’s teammate Artem Lobov appears to have been involved in the situation as well and UFC President Dana White has removed him from Saturday’s fight against Alex Caceres.
It seems the rage that ignited McGregor’s attack today was fueled by news that the UFC was going to strip him of his UFC lightweight title. Earlier today McGregor tweeted obscenities directed at the UFC. That story here.
UPDATE: McGregor turned himself into police and has been charged with three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief.
