Craig Willingham on his path to CFS gold: “I will be victorious and I will dominate”
Craig Willingham has been unstoppable since beginning his reign in the realm of amateur welterweight MMA. Building a resume of 5-0 with all 5 wins coming via KO/TKO victory. Willingham has been a puzzle that no one has come close to figuring out, yet.
In the semi-finals of the welterweight tournament at Cowboy Fight Series 3, Willingham stopped John Leancu via TKO in the opening 2 minutes of the second round. This Saturday, December 21st, Craig Willingham gets his biggest test to date in Mark Ari-Lewis for the Cowboy Fight Series inaugural welterweight tournament finale. Willingham was originally supposed to take on Tyler Bunting whom advanced in the semi finals round against Ari-Lewis. Unfortunately, however, Bunting had to withdraw from the championship contest, leaving Ari-Lewis to fill the void, and saving the welterweight championship bout for Cowboy Fight Series 4.
Getting into the bout with his opponent, Willingham was never worried about Bunting or Ari-Lewis as he says, “The show is about me! They’re (opponents) just there. So, its like it doesn’t even make a difference who it is!”
However, Willingham is fully aware of what’s at stake as he reflects on the road to the CFS finale and becoming the CFS welterweight champion by stating, “Being able to be the inaugural Cowboy Fight Series welterweight champion is always something I’ll be able to say…”
When asked for a prediction, Willingham is willing to let his opponent choose their own destiny.
“I feel like thats something you cant ask me. You have to ask Mark how long does he wanna stick around? How long does he wanna keep his defense up? How long does he wanna keep the pace? Thats not really a question for me…When he wanna get out of there just like everybody else He’ll get up out of there and if not we’ll see it til the end.” Continuing with, “But everything else as far as when he gets up outta there, thats my opponents decision!”
Tune in above as I am joined via Skype for this one-on-one chat with Cowboy Fight Series welterweight tournament finalist, Craig Willingham. He takes on Mark Ari-Lewis at CFS 4 and aims to make it 6-0 in his amateur career, returning home safely for the holidays and wrapping up another successful year in his MMA career. 2020 is looking bright for Craig Willingham.
