Dan Hooker has no idea who Thiago Moises is, but open to fighting Islam Makhachev with win at UFC Vegas 31
UFC lightweight Dan Hooker says he has no idea who Thiago Moises is, but he is open to fighting Islam Makhachev with a win at UFC Vegas 31.
The No. 9 ranked Makhachev puts his seven-fight win streak on the line when he meets the No. 14 ranked Moises in the main event of Saturday’s UFC Vegas 31 event. Directly ahead of Makhachev in the rankings at No. 8 is Hooker, and if Makhachev goes out there and beats Moises this weekend, it logically makes sense that the Russian may call out the Kiwi afterward. Of course, Makhachev will have to get past Moises first.
Speaking to James Lynch, Hooker was asked about potentially fighting the winner of the Makhachev vs. Moises fight next. Coming off of a KO loss to Michael Chandler at UFC 257, Hooker knows that he’s in no position to call anyone out now. But while he says he admits that he has no idea who Moises is, he also confirmed that he would consider fighting Makhachev if he wins and calls him out.
“Yeah, I don’t know who the other kid is. I don’t think I’ve seen him. Who did he fight? I don’t know him,” Hooker said. “But I definitely know Islam. He’s the one that’s been chirping for a while so it will be good to see him step into the main event and see what he can do. I know that he’s just behind me in the rankings, so that’s another fight there. If he gets the job done and he says my name, then that’s something that, for the fighter in me, that’s hard for me to get past. Yeah, you sell that fight, we can make that happen.”
