Dana White plans to talk to Nate Diaz about taking Khamzat Chimaev fight: ‘This guy is nothing like anybody has seen’
Dana White is impressed with Khamzat Chimaev and is interested in seeing him fight Nate Diaz next time out.
Chimaev made his highly-anticipated return on the main card of UFC 267 as he took on Li Jingliang. Many expected it to be a tough fight as Jingliang was ranked 11th beat Chimaev ran through him and got the first-round submission. For White, he says he is blown away by Chimaev and he knows the Swede is a massive star as evidenced by their social media.
“100 percent this guy is nothing like anybody has seen,” White said to TMZ Sports. “When you think about it, he’s got more UFC wins than he has been hit inside the Octagon. Insane. The other night, our social team, they filmed his walkout live on Instagram Live, it broke the record. It’s the biggest Instagram Live we have ever done.”
With the win at UFC 267, Khamzat Chimaev is 4-0 inside the Octagon and now will likely get a top-ranked opponent or a big name next time out. If Dana White has his way, he wants to see Khamzat Chimaev face Nate Diaz next time out and he plans on talking to Diaz about the fight.
“Yeah, we are going to talk to Nate about it. 100 percent (we are down to do it),” White said.
Chimaev, as mentioned, is 4-0 inside the Octagon, and before the win over Jingliang, he knocked out Gerald Meerschaert with one punch. He made his debut on Fight Island with a submission win over John Phillips and then TKO’d Rhys McKee just 10 days later.
Nate Diaz, meanwhile, only has one fight left on his UFC contract and has called out the likes of Vicente Luque and Tony Ferguson as of late. However, with him only having one fight left, many speculated the UFC would force him into a hard fight like Chimaev to send him into free agency on a losing skid.
