Dana White reveals his most highly-anticipated fight for the rest of 2021
There are plenty of big fights coming up before the year is over, but for UFC president Dana White, one of them stands out above the rest.
Speaking to Tom Taylor of Bleacher Report, White said that while there are a lot of fights he’s looking forward to, the one that he’s really looking forward to is the rematch between UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou and Derrick Lewis, which is set to headline UFC 265 in August. The first fight between Ngannou and Lewis at UFC 226 in 2018 was an absolute snoozefest, but White is convinced that there’s no way this second fight between the two knockout artists can be boring.
“The fight I want to see most in 2021? Sh*t, that’s such a tough question. I don’t know why, after their first one, but I’m excited for Francis Ngannou and Derrick Lewis. I just can’t see it playing out the same way,” Dana White said.
The first fight between Ngannou and Lewis was supposed to be a slugfest between two of the hardest hitters the UFC heavyweight division has ever known, but instead, it was 15 minutes of both men staring at each other. Lewis won the fight via unanimous decision that night, but three years later he’s a massive underdog to win the rematch. That’s because ever since the first fight, Ngannou has been on a roll as he’s won his last five fights by brutal knockout, including a KO win over former champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 260 that saw him win the heavyweight title.
With Jon Jones getting into a public financial disagreement with the UFC over the Ngannou fight, the UFC decided to go with Lewis for the rematch, and the hope from White is that this second fight between the two turns out to be a lot more fan-friendly than the first fight.
