Dana White says Luke Rockhold should ‘hang it up’ after UFC 239 KO loss
Luke Rockhold move up to light heavyweight and was expecting to have success given he did not have to cut 20 extra pounds. Yet, that did not appear to be the case. At the horn of the first round, Jan Blachowicz threw a kick that rocked the former middleweight champ and dropped him. Although referee Herb Dean did not consider it late so the fight went on.
Then, in the second round, Jan Blachowicz landed a left hook that dropped Luke Rockhold. The Polish-fighter followed him to the ground and finished him via ground and pound to knock him out. Following the loss, UFC president Dana White says he would like to see Rockhold retire.
“I think Luke Rockhold should talk about hanging it up,” White said at the UFC 239 post-fight news conference. “He broke his jaw tonight. That’s his second broken jaw, he’s been knocked out viciously a few times here, his shin is all banged up, he had to have skin graphs and all kinds of stuff. He’s had a good career. He’s been a great fighter. I’d like to see him hang it up.”
Ultimately, Luke Rockhold has been knocked out numerous times, and knocked out cold. His health has to start coming into question which is why White would like to see him retire. Add in the fact that he is a model for Ralph Lauren and White says it gives him more of a reason to hang them up.
“He’s got another career, he’s got a second career,” Dana White said. “Everyone’s a (expletive) model, right? ‘I’m a model, I’m a model.’ That guy’s actually really modeling for Ralph Lauren. So, good for him.”
Whether or not he does is to be seen. But, it is another brutal knockout loss for Luke Rockhold on his record.
