Dana White tells Jorge Masvidal he ‘can’t make ultimatums’
After Jorge Masvidal knocked out Ben Askren in five seconds many thought he was next for the title shot. Following his win, “Gamebred” called for a title shot or a big money fight against Conor McGregor, which Dana White shut down the latter.
Now, after Colby Covington beat Robbie Lawler he will get the next title shot so it appears Masvidal will get neither for now. Which White says shows you can’t do ultimatums.
“You can’t make ultimatums,” White said after Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series (via MMA Fighting). “Listen, we’re going to offer him a fight, and if he accepts the fight, he does and if he doesn’t, he doesn’t.”
However, Jorge Masvidal continues to ask for the Conor McGregor fight in recent interviews. He believes that is the fight to make and it would be big paydays for both of them.
“If he wants to come back and he wants somebody who’s gonna stand with him and give him the type of fights that he likes, look no further my brother,” Masvidal told TMZ recently. “Let’s not flirt with each other and all this sh*t. I’ve got a big buzz going on because I’m known and put people to sleep. You’ve got a huge buzz because you put people to sleep. Let’s do this. That’s it. It has to be no back and forth and all that flirty sh*t like we’re in high school. Let’s just scrap if we’re gonna scrap.”
Yet, it seems unlikely it will happen after Dana White has shut it down numerous times. So, who he fights next is up in the air. But a likely fight offer he will be getting is against Leon Edwards. They don’t like each other and they are both near each other in the rankings where the winner could then get the next title shot.
