Dana White’s Contender Series: Season 7, Week 9 Results
Dana White’s Contender Series is winding down its seventh season with tonight being the ninth episode of the season.
Last week was a historical event in Dana White’s Contender Series history as it marked the first time that six fighters earned contracts, and it was also the first time that two athletes that were on the losing side of their fight got a UFC contract.
Last year, Shannon Ross received a UFC contract after his loss, but that came days later after the news broken that he fought with a ruptured appendix.
Tonight, four more fights will take place inside of the UFC Apex in Las Vegas with all the fighters hoping to hear their names called for a UFC contract at the end of the night.
In the main event, Murtaza Talha faces off with Rodolfo Bellato square off in a light heavyweight bout.
Representing Bahrain, Talha is a former undefeated IMMAF champion who has gone 6-0 since turning pro. Talha has yet to go the distance in his professional career and five of his fights have ended in the first round.
Bellato returns to the UFC APEX for a second time and so far in his career only current UFC light heavyweight Vitor Petrino has been able to Bellato as Petrino is responsible for each of his two career defeats.
In the co-main event, Eduardo Torres Caut and Victor Hugo will meet inside of the octagon in a battle of red hot bantamweights.
Torres enters on a five-fight winning streak and brandishing a 16-1 record overall, with his lone setback coming two years ago against UFC vet Nohelin Hernandez. If Torres earns a contracts, he will join Ignacio Bahamondes as the second fighter from Chile on the UFC roster.
Hugo has posted 12 consecutive victories to push his record to 23-4 heading into Tuesday’s fight. He’s split his wins almost evenly between knockouts, submissions, and decisions, but he’s finished his last three fights.
Tonight’s fights can be streamed on ESPN+ beginning at 8 p.m. ET. Following the conclusion of the event, the rebroadcast will be made available on ESPN+.
