Daniel Cormier vs Anthony Johnson 2 headlines UFC 206 in Toronto
When the Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to Toronto on December 10, light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will defend his title against Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson in a rematch from May of 2015. Cormier made the announcement on Wednesday’s edition of UFC Tonight on FS1.
When the two men first fought it was for the vacant light heavyweight championship after former champion Jon Jones had been stripped of the title. Cormier survived an early onslaught from Rumble and was able to submit him via rear-naked choke in the second round at UFC 187.
Cormier (18-1) only has one title defense since defeating Johnson. He defeated Alexander Gustafsson in October 2015, and then defeated Anderson Silva in an non-title bout at UFC 200 after Jon Jones was pulled from that rematch due to a USADA violation.
Johnson has three straight KO victories since his loss to Cormier. He knocked out Jimi Manuwa in the second round at UFC 191, and then Ryan Bader and Glover Teixeira in a combined 1:39 of fight time.
Five other UFC 206 bouts were made official on Wednesday.
Poliana Botelho vs. Valerie Letourneau
Zach Makovsky vs. John Moraga
Lando Vannata vs. John Makdessi
Olivier Aubin-Mercier vs. Drew Dober
Ruystam Khabilov vs. Jason Saggo
UFC 206 takes place at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario.
