Danni McCormack talks Invicta FC title defense; hopes to sign with UFC
Danni McCormack wanted to get a finish in her first Invicta FC strawweight title defense and that’s exactly what she did at Invicta FC 54.
For McCormack, Invicta FC 54 marked a little bit of a challenge as she faced her friend Karolina Wojcik. While the two have a friendship, they knew the fight was strictly business and they did their best to separate themselves in the lead up to the fight.
Nonetheless, the two would square off in the main of Invicta FC 54 and for McCormack, she has had her eyes on making the UFC roster and tried to use her main event to make a push towards the UFC.
After she won the Invicta strawweight title, she thought she was going to a phone call from the UFC, but instead, the UFC made it clear that they wanted to see McCormack get a finish before they have conversation about signing her.
So when McCormack stepped foot inside of the cage at Invicta FC 54 she went for the finish right from the start. McCormack was walking Wojcik down and pressuring her with repeated shots.
After the third round, McCormack was up 3-0 on the judges scorecards and she felt it was the time to make a big move so at the beginning of round four she shot in for a takedown.
The takedown was timed perfectly as McCormack took Wojcik down, she immediately took her back and locked in a rear naked choke. Wojcik had no choice but to tap out and McCormack got the finish she was looking for.
Following the win, McCormack called out the UFC and she is now hoping to get signed with the promotion.
If for some reason the UFC doesn’t sign McCormack now, she’s fine with staying in Invicta because she wants to set record in the promotion.
Either way, McCormack has options heading into the new year and she’s excited for what 2024 has in store.
Following her win, McCormack spoke with MyMMANews to discuss her title defense, the difficulty on fighting a friend and her plans to sign with the UFC.
