Darren Till still thinking about move to middleweight
Darren Till is on a two-fight losing streak and his future in the welterweight division is up in the air.
After he beat Donald Cerrone and Stephen Thompson, many thought the Englishman would be a future champion, but that has yet to happen. He got submitted by Tyron Woodley at UFC 228 for the title and then was knocked out by Jorge Masvidal in March. Now, the Englishman is considering a move to middleweight, which many thought would happen for a while as he is a big welterweight.
“I do have to think about them things,” Till said to Fighters Only. “I wouldn’t be small at 185. I’d be right in the mix in there with them guys. The great guy, the interim champ Israel (Adesanya) is a great fighter. The champ (Robert Whittaker) is a good fighter. There’s a few beasts. The one guy who is a scary guy is Yoel (Romero).”
Whether or not that happens is up in the air. But he is now thinking about it and says he would be in the mix at middleweight. For now, Darren Till is recovering from his knockout loss but promises to be back in 2019 and knows he will be better, as he was not rushed too soon
“I think I was wrong to myself, to my craft,” Till said. “I wasn’t fully committed. For the (Tyron) Woodley (title) fight in particular, that was one fight where I have to say I was in some condition. I trained like a monster. The better guy won that night.”
Ultimately, Darren Till wants to return to the Octagon soon whether it is at middleweight or welterweight but he is eyeing a rematch against Jorge Masvidal.
“Masvidal, he’s a respectful guy,” Till said. “He’d come to me after the fight and I was – not crying, but I had my head down and someone tapped me on my shoulder and it was Masvidal, and he shook my hand. He was like, ‘You nearly had me in the first (round).’”
“I want that (expletive) rematch. I want that rematch.”
