Deiveson Figueiredo wants Brandon Moreno quadrilogy fight in Brazil: “I want to put on a show for them”
UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo wants the fourth Brandon Moreno fight in Brazil next year in order to unify the flyweight belts.
Figueiredo defeated Moreno earlier this year at UFC 270 to reclaim the UFC flyweight title. The plan was to do a fourth fight between the two next, but the champ was injured and the promotion instead decided to book Moreno against Kai Kara-France for the interim flyweight belt. Moreno fought Kara-France at UFC 277 this past weekend and he claimed the interim title with a body kick KO.
The victory by Moreno over Kara-France sets up this fourth fight with Figueiredo, and it should be a good one when it goes down. Speaking to AG Fight, Figueiredo said that he wants the fight to take place in January 2023 and he hopes he will be able to unify the belts in his native Brazil.
“I want to fight at home, with the human warmth of Brazilians, people screaming the familiar chorus of ‘Uh, you’re going to die’. I want to put on a show for them. I will love it. I hope this fight is in Brazil. I’m going to ask for this fight for January, take advantage of the fact that by then the weight will be better, because I’m way above, coming back from injuries. So I hope the UFC understands that and puts this fight in Brazil for January,” Figueiredo said.
Although Figueiredo entered the cage at UFC 277 and congratulated Moreno on his victory, he wasn’t particularly impressed with his performance and he believes that he will be able to beat him for a second time when they meet in their fourth meeting. The pair is 1-1-1 up until this point.
“I didn’t see any quality in his game. I saw the same guy fighting Kara-France. He’s a guy who gets desperate when he switches, he doesn’t know how to take blows. It’s difficult for Moreno to study me, because he always sees me as an aggressive guy, going for a knockout and in the last one I was calmer, more strategic and that’s difficult for him. I’m sure this guy is very worried, because he knows that every fight that comes I’ll be different. You can expect a patient guy, who will control the game inside the octagon and at the right time I’ll knock him out,” Figueiredo said.
