#ThrowbackThursday – Demian Maia put to sleep by Romulo Barral
Demian Maia is arguably the greatest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner in mixed martial arts today. The UFC welterweight’s accolades include ADCC Champion (2007); World Champion (2000 – Purple Belt); ADCC Silver Medallist (2005); 3x Brazilian World Cup Champion (2002, 2003 Open Weight, 2005 – CBJJO).
Maia has never been submitted in a mixed martial arts competition, and the last time he was submitted in a BJJ forum was in 2006 against Romulo Barral.
Maia had defeated Barral earlier in the tournament via a referee’s decision, but it was during the semi-finals match that Maia was put to sleep via Brabo Choke.
