Derek Brunson hints at potential light-heavyweight move
Derek Brunson could be making the move to light heavyweight.
Following the announcement of Jon Jones vacating the UFC 205-pound title, Brunson hinted at a potential move up a weight class. He did so via Twitter on Monday, Aug. 17.
“I always wanted to eat and not cut weight. LHW,” Brunson said on Twitter.
“Jon Jones report to the scale. Heavyweight awaits you!”

Brunson is currently riding a three-fight win streak in the middleweight division. He most recently stopped Edmen Shabazyan in the UFC Fight Night 173 headliner on Aug. 1.
Before then, he earned back-to-back unanimous-decision wins against Ian Heinisch and Elias Theodorou.
With 17 fights in the UFC’s middleweight division, Derek Brunson is yet to challenge for the strap. Brunson made a name for himself in Strikeforce, before coming over to the UFC in 2012.
With the UFC light-heavyweight title now vacated, there’s opportunity for the entire division and beyond. Although Brunson currently ranks as the No. 7 middleweight, he is at least talking about the idea.
