Derrick Lewis to face Alexandr Romanov at UFC Fight Night 246

UFC Fight Night 246 just got its main event, a flyweight bout between no. 3 ranked contender Erin Blanchfield (12-2) and no. 5 ranked former two-time UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas (13-6). The event has also just added an exciting heavyweight clash between no. 11 ranked Derrick Lewis (28-12) and no. 13 ranked Alexandr Romanov (17-3).

UFC FN 246 is to go down on November 2, 2024, live from the Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Lewis just broke the all-time UFC knockout record earlier this year in May, his own record mind you, extending him to 15 total in 19 promotional victories following his third-round knockout of Rodrigo Nascimento this past May.

‘The Black Beast’ came to the UFC in 2014 as the LFC heavyweight champion and also holds notable wins over the likes of Gabriel Gonzaga (KO), Roy Nelson (SD), Shamil Abdurakhimov (TKO), Travis Browne (KO), no. 9 ranked Marcin Tybura (KO), former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou (UD), no. 3 ranked former Bellator and M-1 Global heavyweight champion Alexander Volkov (KO), former WSOF heavyweight champion Blagoy Ivanov (SD), Ilir Latifi (UD), Aleksei Oleinik (TKO), no. 5 ranked Curtis Blaydes (KO), Chris Daukaus (KO), and Marcos Rogerio De Lima (TKO).

Romanov on the other hand won the EFC heavyweight championship prior to joining the UFC in 2020, entering the promotion at an undefeated 11-0 and winning his first five-straight octagon bouts with victories over Roque Martinez (arm-triangle choke), Marcos Rogerio De Lima (forearm choke), Juan Espino (SD), Jared Vanderaa (TKO), and Chase Sherman (keylock).

The Moldovan contender has since however gone 1-3 over his latest four appearances, first losing to Marcin Tybura (MD) and Alexander Volkov (TKO) in back-to-back fights, before defeating Blagoy Ivanov (UD), and then losing to no. 6 ranked Jailton Almeida (rear naked choke) in June.

Does Romanov get back to his winning ways and restore some of the hype he once had, or does Lewis add yet another devastating knockout victory to his resume?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
