Destiny Quinones – This is going to be the best Destiny anyone has ever seen
“The Cage Cutie” Destiny Quinones will make her long awaited professional mixed martial arts debut in the new year. The New York native will Danielle Hindley at Reality Fighting, January 6, 2018. The fight goes down at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
Finding an accurate amateur MMA record for Quinones can be a difficult task as the majority of her fights were fought prior to New York State officially sanctioning the sport. While one site lists her at having a 2-7 record, another says 5-10. Quinones herself will tell you her record is 8-11.
When asked why she chose to make the decision to turn pro now, Quinines responded, “I’ve been doing MMA now for over 4 years. I’ve gone to College for Fighting. I’ve have over 15 MMA Fights / 20 K1 and Muay Thai. I’ve been in a lot of wars, fought some of the best female ammy’s out there. Plus, my coach said it’s time.”
Quinones is coming off back-to-back losses to extremely tough opponents, but still feels now is the time to make the move to the pro ranks. In September she faced the gritty, Devon Estes at Maverick MMA 3 for the organization’s amateur strawweight title. Quinones would lose by way submission from a kimura. Quinones then stepped up on short notice to take on jiu-jitsu ace Erin Blanchfield who was making her MMA debut at Aggressive Combat Championships 17. That fight would end via first round submission from an armbar.
Why after two losses in a row do you want to turn pro?
“Amateur MMA isn’t about winning or losing,” Quinines said, “It’s about learning, growing and making mistakes. Learning about yourself as a fighter and as a person. There isn’t any fight I could have now that would make me say, ‘Yes now I am ready for pro. Or after beating this girl I’m ready for pro.’ It’s time to test myself in a bigger pool.”
What do you know about your opponent?
“She’s a BJJ girl. She won her pro debut in 15 seconds. Looks like a good fight.”
Are you changing anything up as far as training now that you are going pro?
“Yes I have a new coach. Shhhh!!!!! It’s a secret. And some new pro training partners. This is going to be the best Destiny anyone has ever seen.”
