One of the more active fighters in the mixed martial arts scene, Dylan Budka will have his second pro bout in a span of four weeks when he faces Brian Jackson in the main event at WFC 133 at the MGM Northfield Park in Northfield, Ohio this weekend.
A former wrestler at Notre Dame College in Ohio, “The Mindless Hulk” broke onto the amateur MMA scene in 2021 in a big way, compiling a 7-2 record over an 11-month span that earned him the 2021 Ohio MMA News Amateur Fighter of the Year award.
Budka was slated to face Derik Overstreet in a rematch in his pro debut in January, but that bout was scrapped less than a week out. Instead, the Demolition Fight Team product took a short notice bout against undefeated David Gladfelter at Jorge Masvidal’s iKON FC 1 in Florida. Budka was submitted in the third round in that bout, but he said his performance showed he can hang with top-level prospects.
“If I would have just trusted my hands as much as I trust my wrestling, I feel like the fight would have went different,” Budka said. “I made a rookie mistake and definitely woke up something I needed to do. It sucks loosing on a big stage like that and losing that way, but they want me back, and I learned a lot from that.”
“Just how I feel in the room now, knowing that I can bang with the guys that are the top level already, it definitely showed that I’m able to do this. I made a small mistake, but I know that if I show what I can do I can take on the top guys.”
Dylan has said he wants at least one fight a month in 2022 as he continues up the ranks in his pro career. Check out the full interview with Dylan Budka above.
Also at WFC 133, Ohio native Darnell Truett will look to earn his first pro win in three tries when he welcomes Kansas fighter Alexis Garcia to the pro ranks in a welterweight bout. A product of Canton’s Victory MMA, Truett came up short in his first two pro bouts in 2021 after posting a 5-4-1 amateur record. The 22-year-old Garcia makes his pro debut after posting an 8-3 amateur record.
Other notable bouts at WFC 133 feature Strong Style fight team product Charles Payne against Tywan Stills and flyweights Brandan Donaldson vs. James Jeffries.
