Edson Barboza not going anywhere, fight against Josh Emmett in the works
Well so much for Edson Barboza leaving the UFC. In fact, not only will he still fight in the UFC, but he’s changing weight classes.
Today Combate reported that there is a featherweight bout in the works for UFC Oklahoma City between Barboza and Josh Emmett.
This news comes just days after Barboza publicly asked to be released from the promotion.
Barboza (20-8) has been on a tough stretch as of late, going 1-4 in his last five fights. In his defense, a lot of his recent losses have come at the hands of top UFC lightweight contenders. His last win came against Dan Hooker in December 2018. Hooker is currently ranked No. 5 in the lightweight rankings.
Emmett (15-2) has won two straight and four of his past five fights. His last three wins have come by way of knockout.
UFC Oklahoma City will take place on May 2 and the event will be headlined by Jack Hermansson and former middleweight champion Chris Weidman.
