Eduard Folayang feels he “could’ve done something more” in Eddie Alvarez fight
Former two-time ONE Championship lightweight champion, Eduard Folayang, is gunning for a rematch. “Landslide” Folayang (22-12) of the Philippines lost to former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez in August 2019 after making a mistake early on in the very first round.
Folayang threw a kick that floored Alvarez. Sensing blood in the water, Folayang swarmed in, but Alvarez evaded the threat and was able to apply a rear-naked choke that forced the fight to its conclusion.
“That’s a great opportunity for me, it’s a great fight if that happens,” Folayang said of the opportunity of a possible rematch. “It would be awesome if Alvarez vs. Folayang II does happen especially on my part. I really feel that I could’ve done something more in our previous fight,” the Team Lakay veteran said.
The original pairing between the two was at ONE: Dawn of Heroes during the semifinals of the ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix.
“ONE: Dawn of Heroes” marked the second ONE Championship outing of Alvarez. When he made his promotional debut, he lost via knockout to Timofey Nastyukhin of Russia.
Following the win over Eduard Folayang, Alvarez fought just two more times; one was ruled a no-contest, and the other a unanimous decision loss.
Folayang on the other hand has only won two of six fights since Alvarez.
