EFC 37 To Hold South Africa’s First Ever Women’s MMA Match
Africa’s largest mixed martial arts organization Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) kicks off its first event of 2015 on Saturday February 21 in Carnival City, Johannesburg, South Africa. The card is loaded with 12 fights, including two title fights and Africa’s first ever women’s mma bout.
The main event of EFC 37 will be between lightweight champion Leon ‘Iron Lion’ Mynhardt (13-6) against Don ‘Magic Man’ Madge (3-2-1). This will be Mynhardt and Madge’s third meeting, as Mynhardt has won the last two fights.
The co-main event of the card is between welterweight champion Adam ‘The Prodigy’ Speechly (7-4) against David Buirski (4-2). Speechly and Buirski were supposed to fight back in December, the fight however had to be postponed when Speechly suffered a training injury.
In addition to the two title fights on this card, the ladiest will take the stage in the continent’s first ever women’s mixed martial arts fight when South African Danella Eliasov and Hungary’s Zita Varju meet in the cage. Eliasov will be making her professional mma debut, she has a 1-0 amateur record. Varju lost her first professional fight by submission last year and will look to earn her first win in her professional mma career.
