Eric Roncoroni: It’s gonna be a lot of fun punching Tim Williams in the face
Two former middleweight champions from the two most prestigious mixed martial arts organizations in the Garden State will meet at 185 pounds on February 18 at the Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City.
Former Ring of Combat middleweight champion Eric Roncoroni is set to fight former Cage Fury Fighting Championship’s middleweight champion Tim Williams
“The Viking” Roncoroni (5-3) is coming off an unsuccessful ROC title defense where he dropped a unanimous decision to Ruslan Melikov.
“The South Jersey Stranger” Williams (14-3) returns to CFFC after fighting outside the organization in November. Williams won the CFFC title in 2014 but lost it in his first defense to Anthony Smith. He is also a former contestant on the Ultimate Fighter.
MyMMANews caught up with Roncoroni and coach Don Cioffi to discuss the scheduled CFFC 63 bout.
“It’s gonna be alot of fun punching that guy in the face,” the Viking said.
“I’m just really toning things down as far as my skill and mind set. Looking to become more focused on keeping things simple and effective for my style and strengths in order to do what I’m made to do against these high level fighters that I’ll be encountering since winning the ROC middleweight belt,” Roncoroni said.
“Each fight of mine is do or die in order to reach the UFC.”
Roncoroni has been coached by Cioffi for a number of years now. Cioffi, who is head instructor and owner at American Strikers Academy said this of Roncoroni’s training.
“We made soem adjustments for this camp. H’es not going to be doing so much dancing. He’s going to be moving and striking the way he should be doing. He had a spell there for two fights where he thought he was Dominick Cruz (laughs). We had a discussion about that and we brought it back to work the style he was comfortable with, where he is not moving all over the place, brought it back to the basics and the fundamentals and he seems to be doing very well and liking it a lot. We’re going to keep it simple for this fight. Give him all the respect. He’s a very good fighters, well rounded, but when we turn The Viking loose February 18th, it’s going to get ugly.”
