Erin Blanchfield isn’t fazed by Jessica Andrade replacing Taila Santos at UFC Vegas 69: ‘Everybody’s tough, so I don’t really care’
Erin Blanchfield wasn’t concerned when she found out Taila Santos was out of her UFC Vegas 69 main event.
Blanchfield was headlining her first UFC event against Santos but on a week’s notice, it was revealed Santos was out of the fight and Jessica Andrade has stepped up on short notice. Although it is a different fight, Blanchfield knows they are both tough outs but the focus has always been on her, so she isn’t fazed by the change in opponent
“Everybody’s tough, so I don’t really care. I was just happy to get a fight,” Blanchfield said at UFC Vegas 69 media day. “I know a lot of people have been saying that, I guess because Andrade has a lot of experience in the UFC. She has a lot more fights than me or Taila. I think that’s the only reason why. She’s super tough. She’s different than Taila. But I don’t think it’s necessarily a bigger fight skill-wise. I think it might be bigger for people that know Andrade.”
Although Blanchfield was preparing for Santos, she says Andrade is also in a difficult spot as she didn’t expect to be fighting this weekend until about a week ago.
“I think they’re different body types, a little bit different styles,” Blanchfield said. “It’s just adjusting to that. Andrade has to adjust to me, too. Andrade just fought and she didn’t know she was fighting me until a week ago. We both have to make a little bit of adjustments so I think we’re on an even playing field with that.”
Erin Blanchfield (10-1) is coming off a submission win over Molly McCann back at UFC 281 in a one-sided performance. The 10th-ranked women’s flyweight contender is 4-0 in the UFC with her other wins coming over JJ Aldrich, Miranda Maverick, and Sarah Alpar in her debut.
