Fares Ziam wins France versus England battle against Jai Herbert at UFC London
The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us today, July 22, 2023, for our second UFC London event of the year.
Headlining the event is a matchup of heavyweight contenders, as no. 5 ranked Tom Aspinall (12-3) takes on no. 10 ranked Marcin Tybura (24-7) in the main event of the evening.
Co-headlining the event is a 125 lb affair between former Cage Warriors flyweight champion Molly McCann (13-5) and former Invicta FC bantamweight champion Julija Stoliarenko (10-7-2).
Our second bout going down on the main card today came at 155 lbs between former Cage Warriors lightweight champion Jai Herbert (12-5-1) and former LFC lightweight champion Fares Ziam (14-4).
Herbert had gone 2-3-1 through his prior six promotional bouts, while Ziam had gone 3-2 through his first five.

Official Result: Fares Ziam def. Jai Herbert via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)
Much of the opening round is spent with Herbert pressing Ziam into the fence, unsuccessfully searching for takedowns. Once they’re back to striking range Herbert lands a good leg kick, and Ziam lands a good push kick up the middle just before the round ends.
Both men have success with their striking in round two, each of them landing good punches at range and knees to the body in the clinch. Herbert is still in search of a takedown, though he’s unable to secure any and is taken down himself toward the end of the middle stretch.
Ziam begins to really sink his shin into the lead leg of Herbert in the third and final round, effecting him pretty badly with it. Herbert immediately shoots in on a takedown after the second one lands, though he’s again unsuccessful.
Make that 4 wins out of his last 5 for @ZiamFares 💪
