Fierce FC XVIII takes over West Valley City, Utah: Results & Highlights
This past Saturday, the local combat sports fans of West Valley City were given a fight night to remember, courtesy of Utah’s premier MMA promotion. Coming off the heels of a successful year of events in 2021, Fierce Fighting Championship has carried out their first regional MMA event of 2022, with FFC XVIII.
The table was set for ten professional MMA bouts, preceded by two amateur matchups, all in front of a live crowd at the Maverick Center. When all was said and done, four contests were finished by way of submission, six by knockout, and only two wound up in the hands of the judges. Needless to say, this card delivered!
While the event was powerful all around, the early dismantling that Josh Wick (12-5) performed on Cain Carrizosa (11-5), in the first round of their lightweight main event match, was an electrifying way to complete an action-packed night. Cain Carrizosa came into this main event showing with a wealth of experience, having made appearances fighting for notable promotions such as Cage Warriors, Bellator and even the UFC. To spite Carrizosa’s familiarity with top level fighters on the biggest stages available, Josh Wick entered the cage with confidence in his abilities, and ready to overcome the next obstacle in his career. From the moment the starting bell sounded, Josh Wick looked very comfortable, chopping away at the lead calf of Carrizosa with damaging kicks. The low calf kicks proved to be too much for Carrizosa to check or withstand, dropping him to the ground on more than one occasion. This resulted in Wick gaining the top position on the ground, where he was able to unleash devastating punches and elbows, and ultimately finish the fight with just seconds to go in the first round. The strategy that Wick was able to execute against the experienced UFC veteran, resulted in an almost flawless performance, and certainly puts his goal of signing with a major promotion within arms reach.
Since 2016 Fierce FC has been delivering quality combat sports events for the Utah fan base, and with the way they are starting the year off, 2022 is looking very promising. Although not officially announced, their next event is planned for April 30, 2022.
