Former UFC Title Challenger, John Moraga, Returns to Boxing Against Tough Duke Ragan
Former UFC flyweight contender, John Moraga, has taken a short notice boxing bout against Duke Ragan. The fight happens on Top Rank boxing this weekend on the Jose Zepeda and Ivan Baranchyk undercard and will be broadcast on ESPN.
Moraga steps in on one day’s notice to take on Ragan who is 1-0 as a professional and 60-21 as an amateur. Moraga was cut by the UFC after losing to now-champion, Deiveson Figueiredo via body punch. Moraga was a long time staple of the flyweight division, making his UFC debut in 2012. He fought Demetrious Johnson 2013 for the title but came up short.
This isn’t John Moraga’s first trip to the boxing ring either. After competing as a professional in MMA since 2009, he made his pro boxing debut last year in October after being cut by the UFC. He won that bout with a second round knockout versus Brandon Foss.
Duke Ragan won his debut this past August with a first round knockout of Luis Alvarado at the bell. Ragan looks to improve to 2-0 professionally after a lengthy amateur career with 81 fights.
John Moraga Returning to The Big Stage
Stepping up on short notice, John Moraga is back in the big time by being put on the undercard of Zepada and Baranchyk. With the WBC Super Lightweight title on the line, there are major implications for the title fight. Having Moraga on the card shows boxing’s confidence in the former UFC contender. Also on the card, Gabriel Flores Jr. takes on the experienced Ryan Kielczweski in a 135-pound match.
While Ragan has the edge, fans of Moraga from his MMA days are sure to tune in and watch him try to notch his second boxing win. Stay posted to My MMA News for all the latest surrounding John Moraga boxing, the Top Rank card and much more. Thanks for reading!
