Francis Ngannou says “it makes sense” Jon Jones wants more money: “With a mega-fight, everyone would like to have mega pay”
UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou believes it makes sense that UFC superstar Jon Jones is asking for more money for a superfight.
Ngannou knocked out Stipe Miocic in brutal fashion at UFC 260 this past weekend to capture the promotion’s heavyweight crown. The original plan was for Jones to fight the winner of Ngannou vs. Miocic 2, but UFC president Dana White threw cold water on that idea following the event, insinuating that Jones was scared of Ngannou. Jones, meanwhile, has been adamant that he indeed wants the Ngannou fight, only that he wants to get paid more to fight him.
Speaking to TMZ Sports in the wake of his title fight win, Ngannou said that he believes Jones really does want this fight, and “The Predator” also believes that it makes sense Jones wants more money to step into the Octagon with him.
“I believe that Jon Jones wants this fight. I believe that he will want it to happen because it’s going to be a massive fight, a mega-fight, basically one of the biggest. I mean, he’s been around for so long and he’s been a champ for so long, and I think this might be the biggest fight of his career. So I think he wants that thing. He wants to put something else like this on his legacy, on his resume. So I truly believe that he wants this fight to happen,” Ngannou said.
“As far as for (the money), I mean yeah, he’s asking for money, he said, ‘Show me the money.’ But I think it makes sense. I think with a mega-fight, everyone would like to have mega pay. If I want that fight, I would like to have a good pay. Every other fighter out there would like that. So there’s nothing irrational in this. Everything is just normal. Everyone is just expecting that we are doing this in order to one day we will have a big payday, a big fight day, and when it comes that moment, you’re like, ‘Ok, I wish I had what I want.’ So I believe in it, and I believe that that ‘show me the money,’ for me, shows that he really wants it, and if you show him the money, he’s going to fight.”
Do you think the UFC will pay Jon Jones what he wants and get the Francis Ngannou fight booked?
