Garrett Armfield aiming to fight at UFC St. Louis, names Brady Heinstand as perfect opponent
After spending some time training in Florida, Missouri’s own Garrett Armfield came back to the Midwest and he’s seen the benefits of that decision. Picking up a second consecutive win in his last outing, an upset over betting favorite Brad Katona in Katana’s backyard of Canada, Armfield is now looking to get his next fight in his own backyard.
During an interview with the ‘On The Mic‘ podcast, Garrett Armfield spoke about his desire to fight on the upcoming UFC St. Louis event, currently scheduled for May 11 and named an opponent he would like to face as well.
“Yeah, of course. It goes back to building my brand, if I get to fight in St. Louis that helps a lot. I think it helps me more than fighting in another country, I’ve heard that you gain a lot of following if you fight a foreign guy in their country, and I’ve done that twice now but I didn’t get as big of a push.”
Just as his UFC career is getting off the ground, Armfield has an opportunity for his full-circle moment to happen early in his career and believes getting a fight in St. Louis will bring that moment to him.
“It’s completely full-circle. I remember my first amateur fight and cutting weight in St. Louis, it’d just be insane to go back and be like ‘Wow remember when I was just an amateur fighter?’ and that’s the craziest thing, anybody can do this. Anybody can make it to the UFC. I’m full proof. We all start at the smallest venues, it’s crazy to think.”
With a building resume and a two-fight winning streak to his credit, Garrett Armfield knows an ideal opponent for him to face in St. Louis and it happens to be another rising fighter, Brady Heistand.
“Brady Heistand, I feel like I matchup very well against him. He’s won two fights in a row and that would be the perfect fight for me to take on in St. Louis in front of everybody. I feel I matchup very well against him.”
Having not competed since April of 2023, Heistand is also currently on a two-fight winning streak but has yet to compete in 2024. A fight between Armfield and Heistand will give both fighters an opportunity to not only build on their respective resumes, but also to claim their rising place in the division. Even with momentum in his favor, Armfield is in no rush or hurry to rise to the top of the division.
The main goal remains for Garrett Armfield, he wants to be world champion and one of the best fighters ever, and with his home of Missouri and Kansas behind him, he believes the journey can come full-circle and give him an opportunity to continue his rise if he gets a fight in St. Louis. With a patient, mature, and open mindset, Armfield is a fighter many should watch in the bantamweight division.
