Georges St-Pierre predicts multiple fights between Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev
UFC legend Georges St-Pierre predicts that we will see multiple fights between Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev.
Oliveira and Makhachev meet at UFC 280 in October on Fight Island for the vacant UFC lightweight championship. St-Pierre, of course, is one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time, so his opinions on fights matter. When asked by AG Fight at the recent Karate Combat event who he believes will win the fight, GSP said that he isn’t sure who will win, only that he sees the two men fighting multiple times in what could potentially be a storied rivalry.
“For sure, I think he (Do Bronx) is going to stay there (at the top) for a long time. I think the most challenging fight for him is in front of him, Islam Makhachev. And whoever wins this fight, depending on how he wins, we might see a rematch or a trilogy later. I think these two guys are going to have to face each other sometimes,” St-Pierre said.
“I don’t know who will win. I mean, I believe that if it’s by submission, I believe it will be Oliveira. But if Makhachev can stop Oliveira, put him down and use the fence (he can win). I think that if the fight is more in the center of the Octagon, that will favor Oliveira. If the fight goes closer to the ground, that will favor Makhchev. And I’m talking about standing or ground fighting. I think Oliveira has to be in the middle and Makhachev has to take the fight to the ground.”
Do you agree with Georges St-Pierre that Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev will meet more than once inside the Octagon?
