Gilbert Smith retires from MMA after loss on TUF Redemption
Gilbert Smith, 35, has retired from mixed martial arts. The announcement came during tonight’s televised broadcast of The Ultimate Fighter Season 25, TUF Redemption.
Smith was on the losing end of one heck of a fight with Dhiego Lima. The contest went to the judges after a third round was warranted.
After the decision was read, Smith shed a heartfelt tear, bringing a career to a close, and spoke to both opposing teams, Team T.J. Dillashaw, and Team Cody Garbrandt, inside the octagon.
“Chocolate Thunder” was a cast member on season 17 of TUF and made it back for this “redemption” season. He won his first fight against Seth Baczynski and was then set to fight his teammate from Team Dillashaw, Lima.
