Glover Teixeira becomes UFC light-heavyweight champion at UFC 267

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to Fight Island today, Saturday, October 30, 2021, for UFC 267, the first non-PPV numbered event since UFC 138 back in November of 2011. That was six days shy of a decade ago..

Headlining the event is a light-heavyweight championship clash between Jan Blachowicz and No. 1 contender Glover Teixeira, while the co-main event will be contested in the bantamweight division, an interim title clash between No. 1 ranked former champion Petr Yan and No. 3 ranked Cory Sandhagen.

This could honestly be a vacant title fight.

Many people believe Yan to be better than our champion Aljamain Sterling, though he lost their bout via DQ, and many believe Sandhagen defeated Dillashaw over the summer, though he lost via split decision.

We also had the return of Khamzat Chimaev tonight, but let’s talk about our main event.

Blachowicz’ career has been a literal perfect Cinderella story, and Teixeira’s trying to have his own Cinderella story.

After going 2-4 inside the octagon, coming over as the KSW 205 lb champion, Blachowicz has gone 9-1 over his last ten, capturing, and defending the UFC light-heavyweight championship in his last two bouts.

Teixeira fought Jon Jones for the title back in 2014 after initially going 5-0 inside the UFC with four finishes, and now he comes in on another five-fight win streak, again, with four finishes.

Official Result: Glover Teixeira def. Jan Blachowicz via submission (rear naked choke) at 3:02 of round two

Round 1

Teixeira secures a double leg takedown early on and surprises the Polish champion, who’s unable to get up for the remainder of the round. Blachowicz keeps Teixeira in his guard, but this was a great first round for the challenger.

Round 2

Teixeira continues pressing the action, but the champion is starting to get some of his own shots in. The Brazilian then stuns Blachowicz badly with a left hook, before Blachowicz returned fire and landed a nice combo.

Teixeira is then able to get Blachowicz back down to the ground, and before long, takes his back.

Not long after this, the champion taps, and we have a new champion.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
