Glover Teixeira reveals game plan to defeat Jan Blachowicz at UFC 267
Glover Teixeira revealed his game plan to defeat UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz at UFC 267 to capture the 205lbs belt.
The 42-year-old Teixeira fights this Saturday against Blachowicz for the UFC light heavyweight belt. For Teixeira, this is his first fight in a year since he defeated Thiago Santos to rack up five straight wins and earn a title shot. After Blachowicz defended his belt against UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya earlier this year at UFC 259, it set up this title fight against Teixeira. The two veterans will now headline this weekend’s UFC 267 card at Fight Island in Abu Dhabi, and the winner will walk away with the light heavyweight title.
Speaking to AG Fight, Teixeira spoke about this weekend’s big title fight and spoke about his game plan to dethrone the champion. With Blachowicz being such a strong striker, Teixeira made it clear that he intends to get his opponent down to the floor and submit him, where he will hold his greatest advantage in the fight.
“I fight well standing up, I have knockout power, but I’ll definitely try to get the fight down. If I get the chance I’ll put him down. I’m very focused on my Brazilian jiu-jitsu and I consider it one of the best in the world for MMA. I’m very focused on this path, but if I break open, I’m going to get the knockout,” Teixeira said.
Teixeira’s best path to victory might very well be on the ground, but given the improvements that Blachowicz has made to his grappling over the last few years, it might not be easy for him to get it there. That’s why he knows that the standup might have to come into play, and Teixeira is confident he can win there, too.
Jan Blachowicz will fight Teixeira as the main favorite with odds at -300 according to the odds listed at sports betting dime.
