Gregory Rodrigues wins three-straight, dominates Chris Leroy Duncan at UFC 304

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, July 27, 2024, for UFC 304, going down live from the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, England.

Headlining the event is a welterweight title bout between defending champion Leon Edwards (22-3) and no. 2 ranked Belal Muhammad (23-3), a rematch of their 2021 encounter that resulted in a no contest.

Co-headlining the event is also a championship rematch, this one coming in the heavyweight division between interim UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall (14-3) and no. 4 ranked Curtis Blaydes (18-4).

Our second bout going down on the main card tonight came in the middleweight division between a pair of dangerous finishers in Christian Leroy Duncan (10-2) and Gregory Rodrigues (16-5).

Duncan had gone 3-1 in his promotional tenure to date, securing eight of his 10 career wins via knockout, while BJJ world champion Rodrigues had gone 6-2 thus far into his UFC career, securing 10 knockouts and three submissions in his 15 total victories.

Continue reading to see how this middleweight affair went down:

Official Result: Gregory Rodrigues def. Christian Leroy Duncan via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Rodrigues landed a heavy right hand early before soon after securing a single leg takedown. From here he beat on Duncan from top position, landing several punches and elbows that forced a hematoma to grow on Duncan’s forehead.

Rodrigues continued landing solid boxing combinations in round two, finishing them off with those nasty right hands though Duncan stayed in there and kept fighting. The Brazilian went on to secure another takedown at the end of the middle stretch and ended the round on top.

Rodrigues’ superior striking and grappling skills continued to show in the third and final round, securing another takedown and spending much of the round in back mount attacking with ground and pound as well as rear naked choke attempts.

Duncan did a great job of defending however, handing ‘Robocop’ his first decision win inside the octagon.

Gregory Rodrigues improves to 7-2 inside the UFC tonight at UFC 304.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
