Hannah Cifers out of her fight against Emily Whitmire, Sam Hughes steps in
Hannah Cifers will no longer be fighting on Feb. 27 after withdrawing from her fight against Emily Whitmire for undisclosed reasons.
With Cifers out, Sam Hughes will be stepping in to take on Whitmire. MMA Fighting was first to report the news of Cifers withdrawal and Hughes replacing her.
Cifers (10-7) had a rough 2020. She fought four times and lost four of her fights to Angela Hill, Mackenzie Dern, Mariya Agapova and Mallory Martin. Prior to the losing stretch, Cifers was on a two-fight winning streak.
Whitmire (4-4) is coming off back-to-back submission losses to Amanda Ribas and Polyana. She has two wins in the octagon over Jamie Moyle and Aleksandra.
Hughes (5-2) made her UFC debut on short notice in December at UFC 256 against Tecia Torres. She lost the fight by a doctors stoppage.
The UFC’s Feb. 27 card will be headlined by a heavyweight bout between Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Ciryl Gane. Originally the headliner was going to be Dominick Reyes vs. Jiri Prochazka, but that fight has been postponed after Reyes suffered an injury. The Ryes and Prochazka fight will be rescheduled for another date.
