Hannah Goldy, John Makdessi, seven others released from UFC
Longtime UFC veteran John Makdessi, and women’s strawweight competitor Hannah Goldy, join a list of nine fighters that have been removed from the UFC roster.
The full list includes Goldy, Makdessi, Andre Fialho, JP Buys, Carl Deaton, A.J. Fletcher, Kamuela Kirk, Tucker Lutz and Shane Young.
The UFC Roster Watch Twitter account was first to make the announcement.
Makdessi has been a staple for the UFC, having been with the promotion since UFC 124 in 2010. He is 1-2 in his last three bouts with the UFC but became vocal after his last outing in Australia where he took a major pay cut after taxes, medical, airfare, and other expenses. “The Bull” only took home $28,461.65 of his original $58,000 show purse.
Goldy came to the UFC after a win on Dana White’s Contender Series (DWCS) in 2019. After five fights in the UFC she only recorded one victory.
Fialho was riding a four-fight losing streak at the time of his cut and recorded two wins in his seven UFC bouts.
Buys was winless during his UFC tenure. He earned a UFC contract on DWCS in 2020 and then lost four straight fights with the promotion.
Deaton had two UFC bouts this year, losing one by submission and one by decision.
Fletcher went 1-3 with the UFC after a win on DWCS.
Kirk defeated Makwan Amirkhani by way of unanimous decision in his UFC debut but then dropped the next two fights.
Lutz, also a DWCS alum, went 1-3 with the UFC, most recently dropping a unanimous decision to Melsik Baghdasaryan.
Young arrived in the UFC in 2017 where he would lose a unanimous decision to future featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. He then racked up two victories but dropped the next four.
